Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Including the Graston Technique®
Do you have pain caused by scar tissue or muscle tension that won’t go away? Sometimes an old injury or surgery can leave behind scar tissue inside a joint or attached to a muscle. Over time, that scar tissue can lead to inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and disabling pain. Fortunately, Delaware Back Pain & Sports Rehabilitation Centers has a solution for scar tissue and muscle tension.
The treatment is also effective for:
- Spinal and extremity pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Tendonitis
- Rotator Cuff Tear & Repair
- Fibromyalgia
- IT band syndrome
- and more
Your doctor, chiropractor, or rehabilitation specialist can use instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) to identify and break up painful scar tissue. The technique uses stainless-steel or plastic instruments, like a scar tissue stethoscope, that glide along your muscles. When muscle tension or areas of scar tissue are found, both you and your provider will notice a reaction. The instruments are then used to treat the affected area.
Treatment is similar to an intense deep tissue massage. Minor discomfort is normal during the initial treatment, but over time it will improve. Your provider will give you stretches and progressive strengthening exercises to do at home after treatment. These movements will promote realignment of the connective tissues so they behave like normal, healthy tissue.
